A variant of the Aviation, this cocktail gets its name from its distinctive blue-gray hue. The relatively larger proportion of Creme de Violette, combined with the dash of Blue Curacao, creates this unique color and helps to mellow the tartness of the original drink.
I like to use a botanical or citrusy gin for this drink, such as Bombay Sapphire East or Tanqueray Rangpur, as I think the fruit and flower notes of the remaining ingredients are nicely complementary.
Pour all ingredients over crushed ice in a shaker, shake vigorously until very cold and slightly frothy, and strain into a chilled martini glass.
NOTE: The dash of Blue Curacao should just cover the bottom of a 1oz jigger. Any more than that will make the cocktail too blue.
